Our Stars Choir Charity Walk

Hello and welcome to all of the readers of our second Blog!

I have been set the task of writing June’s Blog; a slightly daunting prospect, but a challenge I will endeavour to rise to…

Speaking of challenges, June saw the four founder members of the choir (and some of their wonderful friends!) complete their collective 40-mile walk fundraiser, virtually side by side. It certainly wasn’t easy. We were able to keep in touch with, and motivate each other through, and I think the overriding idea behind the fundraiser was enough to spur us all on to complete the challenge no matter how long it took us (see an article from ‘The Leader‘ to find out more about why we walked 40 miles)

Between us, we completely smashed our £500.00 target; to date, we have raised £635.00 and we cannot thank those who donated enough for their kindness. We have been completely flawed by people’s generosity and support. The money we have raised will be used to help the choir members physically get together a few times throughout the year, when COVID guidelines allow of course, which will be very exciting as we have only ever seen each other during our Zoom choir practices!

Throughout June we have also been fortunate enough to recruit some more wonderful choir members, which has honestly been so lovely. I think it is safe to say that we have all enjoyed getting to know each other a little and learn a variety of songs under our Choir Director, Steve’s, enthusiastic and encouraging guidance. If you are interested in joining the Our Stars Choir, please get in touch for more information; you do not need to have any previous singing experience as we are just a group of people affected by baby loss, who love to sing…

I know it sounds bizarre, but it really works and the members of the choir always finish each session feeling re-energised.

I think the final piece of news I have to share from last month is that the members of Our Stars Choir had a special surprise guest at the beginning of one of their practices in June. JLS star and (much more importantly to us) Our Stars Choir Musical Ambassador, Oritsé Williams, came to speak to us for a little while. It was inspirational to talk to him and we were all a little bit star struck! We are so lucky to have Oritsé’s support and we cannot wait to learn from and work more with him in the future…

July will hopefully see our choir numbers increase and our vocal ranges develop so that we can hit the high notes Steve wants us to reach… We will update you all on any progress in August’s Blog! But for now, I would just like to wish you all a gentle July; the last year has undoubtedly taken its toll on everyone in some way, so let’s try to reach out and support each other in any way we can.

Take care,

Sarah from Our Stars Choir
