Hello and welcome to Our Stars Choir August blog

And what a month August has been for us. It started off with the final preparations for the recording of our very special song and ended with us all meeting face-to-face for the very first time and recording that special song in an amazing recording studio.

We arrived in Kent from all corners of the country, with some having more eventful journeys than others, Gill and Philippa never want to see the M25 again! It was so special to meet everyone face-to-face for the first time after nine months of practicing on Zoom, we all felt like we had known each other forever and greeted each other like long lost friends. After an evening of getting to know each other over pizza and a couple of run throughs of our song it was time for an early night ready for our big day.

The recording studio was an amazing experience and one that we will all never forget. We arrived with feelings of excitement and nerves but were soon put at ease by the wonderful Music Producer Chris Hollis, Studio Owner and Technician for the day Ben, Video Producer Paul Smith, and our amazing Choir Director Steve Taylor. A few run throughs of the song as a whole choir were followed by separate recordings for the sopranos, altos, tenor, and the amazing Angela Inkson from Arustic Duo who is singing lead vocals. We all grew in confidence with each take and by the end were singing without our trusted folders!

Below are some quotes from choir members sharing their experiences of the recording studio:
“I would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved in the day, it was such an amazing experience and I feel really proud for what we have achieved. What a special group of people brought together by a shared experience and a love for singing. I feel very honoured and proud to be part of such a special group of people who I have the honour of calling my friends.” Lydia

“Thank you to everyone involved in making the day such a success. It was a moving and emotional day to finally get to meet the other members of the choir. To have all individually experienced the pain of losing a child/children and then coming together to do something positive has made a real difference to how I feel. I know that I am no longer alone in my grief and I am so thankful for that. What a fabulous group of people.” Lin
“The experience was totally surreal and mind blowing,,. A once in a lifetime, and very humbling. I will remember our “togetherness” and the awesome experience that we shared forever.” Gill

“My thoughts about our Big Adventure….. it was awesome and humbling to be with everyone & making a beautiful song come to life.” Jane

“Being in a professional studio is always a great experience but being able to work with these amazing people there, and for such a great cause made it even more special. It was a very emotional but very rewarding day.” Steve

“Although I did not get to meet the other choir members at the studio, I had such an encouraging time recording with Steve and Chris. Despite my nerves around it, singing solo in a studio wasn’t scary at all! The lyrics of the song are emotive and therefore challenging to sing but the result of achieving a recording is so uplifting and therapeutic. I can’t express enough what a privilege it has been to join with the choir and know that finally a group of people can understand my story even if we don’t talk about it when we meet as a choir, and that we can express our experiences in song.” Rosie

“It was such an amazing experience to be in a professional recording studio, to see all the behind the scenes ‘stuff’ and to be actually able to sing together and meet one another in person, it was an emotional yet very fulfilling day and I can’t wait to hear the finished article.” Holly

We now can’t wait to hear the final version of our very special song which will be available as a single later in the year, how exciting and amazing is that?!

The next focus for us is our first public performance on the 9th of October at Theatr Clwyd in North Wales which will mark the start of Baby Loss Awareness Week 2021. More details on this event will be released very soon so please keep your eyes peeled.
